Event contributions support and strengthen numerous Shopko communities
Fore! Why? Because we raised more than $1.1 million at this year’s Shopko Foundation Golf Classic on Wednesday, July 11. The Classic takes place at three courses in Northeast Wisconsin: Royal St. Patrick’s Golf Links in Wrightstown, Brown County Golf Course in Oneida, and Thornberry Creek at Oneida, the official golf course of the Green Bay Packers, together totaling more than 20,000 yards of green. Proceeds from the Classic fund Shopko Foundation and support our mission to help the communities we serve through grants, scholarships, partnerships, and more.
Retired Packers players, LeRoy Butler, Dorsey Levens, and William Henderson, teed off at Thornberry Creek. Each player has been inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and has left a strong legacy in the organization; Butler is even credited with inventing the famous Lambeau Leap! These players embody Shopko’s commitment to giving back and have continuously been active Shopko Foundation partners.
It was a bright and early morning for everyone. Golfers got ready for a fun day by starting off with breakfast and a welcome, and then, it was game time!
Of course, we are fans of some fun, friendly competition. To mix things up, each hole featured games like Meet the Shopko Executive, Tee Off from the Red, Harley Hole-in-One, Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive, Longest Putt, and Closest to the Bag. Door prizes were spread out across all courses, and each golfer received a gift bag. First place at every course also received a prize. If participants were up for the challenge, we were giving away $25,000 for a hole in one! Maybe next year we will have a winner. You better start practicing now!
Our day did not end on the green. The Classic concluded at the legendary Lambeau Field Atrium for an after-golf party with dinner, photos, and autographs with the Packers. Guests heard inspiring stories from Tim Gorton, president of Families of Children with Cancer, and Cole Stoffel, founder of Cole’s Cancer Crusade, and they attended the awards presentation. It was a relaxing way to end a high-impact day with some good camaraderie.
More than 300 participants from the Classic went home winners because they contributed to Shopko communities across the country. Because of the Shopko Foundation’s successful charity events, like the Golf Classic, Shopko and the Shopko Foundation have raised over $35 million to support numerous organizations and causes in the communities we live and work in. This year’s funds will be used in 2019 to support local schools in Shopko communities across the country and nonprofits focused on health and education.
Thank you to our 2018 presenting sponsors American Greetings, Kimberly-Clark, and Newell Brands, vendors, and everyone who participated and contributed. We could not have done it without you all. We are excited to continue this summer tradition because who does not love to have fun and give back? Stay tuned next year for the 40th Annual Shopko Foundation Golf Classic announcement. We would love to see you on the green!
